Hate driving to work?

Travelling to work every morning from my hotel in Izmir to the IZTECH Technopark is a 45 kms drive and takes about 40 minutes on the Izmir- Çeşme Highway.

As we start from the city center, we drive past the coast line, late morning runners, people casually strolling along, others out fishing with great anticipation. And out in the water are container ships and cruise ships and ferry boats moving from pier to pier. Of course if you look on the other side is the city built up in the hills. Multi story apartment complexes all cut into the hills at various elevations. At ground level you see restaurants and cafes even large stores like Ikea!

As we get onto the highway, to the left the hills continue but they’re absolutely untouched. To the right you can look down into the valley with empty spaces or small little patches of houses all along the sea. Every turn along that road has a spectacular scenic view so much that every time we drive that way it feels like I see something new.

Back home getting to work every morning is a long 3 kms stretch done in a quick 15 minutes (in peak hour traffic where everyone seems to be driving into you). I admit I complain on most days about that drive. Rush hour on this expressway involves passing maybe 10 cars on the road at the most.

So whether it’s the lack of traffic or the fact that I have a lot to look at, or….

…..the fact that there are 8 of us in the mini van and we often start are planning sessions during the drive (apart from everything else we have to talk about); this is by far the easiest 40 minute drive to work I’ve ever done.
