Through the vineyards and cellars of Urla

I can’t think of a better way to wrap up a long Tuesday in the office than a tour of a local Winery and lots of fine wine tasting. Our hosts at IZTEKGEB arranged for us to be taken down the country roads and over the hills to the Urla Winery.

The Urla Winery may have only started some ten years ago, but apparently this area’s former main sector over a 1000 years ago had been vineyards which were long forgotten.

We arrived at a very contemporary building in the midst of vineyards naturally and were taken on a tour of the Winery. We got to see how the grapes were sorted and processed; how the wine was made and stored and clarified all those doubts we had about wine. All part of our learning about the local businesses and economic development in the region.

Finally, the wine tasting….. a long table laid out with wine glasses of course, bread sticks, cheese and a fruit that looked like an apple but was said to be an aphrodisiac! So, we got though our courses of Serendias Rose, Vourla, Symposium and Urla Bogazkere; bought some more wine for our evenings on the hotel porch and returned home happy (not high).
